South of Broad Signing

So we headed downtown to get my copy of South of Broad signed by the infamously fabulous Pat Conroy. I assumed there would be line, but we were FLOORED when we saw how long it was. Running down Bay Street, it wrapped around the building down toward the waterfront. I was, however, determined to meet the author, so much to Josh's chagrin... in line we got.

The wait, though a couple of hours, was not too bad. We met some delightful Beaufortonians while in line, and once inside, the cool air-conditioning of Books on Bay washed over us, and there sat Mr. Conroy atop his literary pedestal.

I told Mr. Conroy I was reading the novel and could not wait to see what trials and tribulations he had in store for his tragic characters. He told me that they all turned into crazed zombies and killed each other in the end... was he flirting with me?

To make a full day of it, we lunched at Plum's, one of Beaufort's culinary gems, though not so secret. You often must wait for a table... but it is worth it.

Grilled pimiento cheese sandwich. Yum.
